The Nova Scotia Fruit Growers’ Association is pleased to announce the agenda for the upcoming 2023 Annual Convention.

The 2023 Annual Convention of the Nova Scotia Fruit Growers’ Association will be held on January 24th, 25th, and 26th of 2023 at the Old Orchard Inn.

In the aftermath of post-tropical storm Fiona, the general sense among most Nova Scotia apple farmers is “cautious relief” after the storm tore through Atlantic Canada over the weekend. The Annapolis Valley was spared the worst of the storm as it battered the more northeastern parts of the province.

The NSFGA Orchard Tour would not be possible without our incredible supporters. We are so grateful for the support you have given us, which allowed us to return to our in-person event with a bang.

August 11th 2022 has been selected as the date for the 2022 Summer Orchard Tour. The Orchard Tour will begin at Miner's Marsh in Kentville at 87 Cornwallis Street (behind the Justice Building). There will be ample parking for those wanting to take the bus.

The Nova Scotia Fruit Growers' Association is proud to play an active role in the Apple Blossom Festival in its 88th year. We are putting a Blosi Orchard Platform as a float in the Grand Street Parade, and doing an "Apple Drop Giveaway" at the "Carnival for Kids" on Saturday May 28th from 11:00AM- 1:00PM to raise money for the Farm-to-School Snack Program here in the Annapolis Valley.

Our Annual Convention is one of our most important events of the year, where we honour the hard work of our members, celebrate the Golden Apple Award winner, hear from industry professionals, get together to socialize, and continue the time honoured tradition of 159 years of meeting to advance the tree fruit industry.

On behalf of the Nova Scotia Fruit Growers' Association, I want to thank everyone who attended our 2022 Spring Workshop. We had over 60 people attend our virtual session on March 29th, and almost as many attend our in-person pruning workshop on March 30th.

It is time for the annual NSFGA Spring Workshop, which will give us an opportunity to gather both online and in-person this year! 

NSFGA has hired Emily Lutz to be the next Executive Director of the organization. She has started in the office at Blair House and will be available on a full time basis to manage the day-to-day business of the NSFGA.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) holds one of the senior positions within the NSFGA and is accountable for the day-to-day management of the association. The ED will represent and promote the interests of the NSFGA membership by fostering the growth and development of a viable and sustainable tree fruit industry.

As you know, the NSFGA 2022 Annual Convention on January 26 has morphed from an in-person to a hybrid to a fully virtual event over the space of a few weeks.  The Annual Convention Committee has worked hard to make this Convention a success and with the help of Jeff Wentzell (NSDA), it has become a reality. 

The Annual Convention Committee is just reeling as our hopes for an in-person 2022 Annual Convention on January 26th have been dashed by the new Covid restrictions and the significant increase in cases in this province. 

Planning is well underway for the 2022 Annual Convention which is to be held on January 26th at the Old Orchard Inn. The committee is putting together a great lineup of speakers with the theme Protecting Your Investment. We also have a great event planned for Wednesday night that you will not want to miss!

The NSFGA Annual Summer Tour was virtual! A dedicated group of growers are your guest speakers and Michelle Cortens is your host, and together they explore a wide range of technical topics to share with you.

From Nova Scotia's tides to its farmlands where we harvest delicious apples. We've been here for centuries harvesting healthy, locally grown, apples. Times and technology have changed. Our commitment to providing fresh apples has not. Buy local apples!

The NSFGA 2021 virtual Annual convention is coming up on January 27th, 2021. The program is fantastic and very informative so don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, grow, and virtually connect with other members of the apple industry.
